Speaking about the Great Army of Napoleon Bonaparte, it is impossible not to say a few words about the French cuirassiers of the early 19th century. Informally named “Big Brothers” or “Big Heels”, these cavalrymen were the real pride of French weapons. The cuirassiers wore a two-sided cuirass that protected the hull from bullets, as well as a helmet that protected the head from saber strikes. Despite the fact that these brave soldiers were non-guard units, they nevertheless belonged to elite units. During the battle of Borodino, the brave soldiers of the 5th cuirassier regiment under the command of General O. Kolenkur captured the Raevsky battery.
